Class 9: Organized Chaos

Wordle of NETS for Students
Here we are at the last week of the grueling summer session and, if I did my job correctly, you should only have to work on existing assignments and write your TaskStream narratives.  I realize that this is no small feat; however, you will have lots of time and support this week as you finish up the required coursework.  The lab is always available early and I should be there early (I'll be the frazzled guy furiously grading the stupendous amount of work you all have submitted).
I will take time in class tonight to help everyone export the PSAs and upload them to your blogs.  Don't forget that the ending credits must give attribution to the source of your data, the music, and anything else you used or researched on the web.  We will also revisit the Emerging Technology checklist and ensure that you understand how to describe your artifacts and list the NETS standards that it meets.  Remind me to discuss some alternative ways to showcase your NETS narratives. . .Yes, I have another crazy idea.
Please let me know if you need any extra help and I can definitely be in early on Wednesday as well.  I probably won't have everything graded by class this evening, but I will finish everything tomorrow!  I am not working my day job for three days, so I can dedicate a lot of time tomorrow to grading. . .

Question:  What has been your favorite assignment in this course and why?

P.S. My daughter Lily's team won the U-10 Gold Division Coronado Crown City Classic!!

  1. I loved making the blog because we can display all of our work on it and we can also personalize it. Making the PSA video was also really fun!

  3. I thought that learning how to embed objects onto our blog was the most helpful thing I learned because its something I probably would've never figured out on my own.

  4. It's our last week?? I thought this class ended NEXT week?? WOOHOO! Anyway, my favorite assignment i think is the iMovie. I'm not done with it, but so far I've enjoyed what I've done.

  5. I really liked learning about "Prezi". I shared it with other teachers at my site and they too liked this format to present information. This is something I WILL use.

  6. I liked learning how to make a blog, I had been thinking about making one, and now I know how to do it.

  7. Its hard to pick just one! I really enjoyed learning how to make the newsletter. It is something that would have taken me a really long time to learn myself, but with your handy "how-to" guide, it was a fun and painless activity! :) I also love knowing the ins and outs of blogging. Both of these will be things I use in my future classroom.

  8. I like Prezi as an exciting alternative to Powerpoint (which has become quite boring over the years). Overall, I like feeling more "techy" after all we have learned! This is my first formal technology class, and most of what I know has been self-taught, so I feel empowered by all the tricks and tools I have learned that will help me figure things out on my own going forward!

  9. I really liked the blog. It is pretty easy to keep up, which I wouldn't have imagined prior to this class. I was also surprised at how easy the "Prezi" assignment ended up being and am really glad I chose to give that a try rather than stick to powerpoint. I learned a new program and will most likely use it again in the future!

  10. My favorite assignment has been learning how to use Twitter. It is a great resource to use for collaboration and to gather new information. I find it is becoming my new way to waste time.

  11. I agree with Michelle, it is hard to pick just one project. I just love working with all kinds of projects and am definitely feeling like I am fired up to use technology in my classroom and to teach students how to utilize it as well. I really enjoyed that I learned about iMovie and was able to use it for an interview in another class!

  12. My favorite assignment was using Twitter as part of my PLN. I didn't use my Twitter account before and now I use it to DM people, be a part of group discussions and follow people that post relevant content. Also, it's very user-friendly.

  13. My favorite assignment was creating my own personalized blog. I believe it will be a great tool for me and adding all of our assignments to it was great practice/experience. Hopefully one day I can create a blog with my students. I pretty much feel more technology literate now.

  14. The I movie, because it was the only thing I knew how to do prior to the class:) I have grown to love the blog, I'll admit it & I think I will really enjoy using it in my own classroom.

  15. It's a tie between the iMovie and the newsletter for favorite assignment. For both, I felt like, while I was learning something new I was working in familiar realms so the assignments were manageable and fun.

  19. There are numerous aspects about this class that I have enjoyed so far but my favorite has been using Diigo and learning how to bookmark information. It is really hard to pick just one though because I feel like so many of the new things we have learned will be applicable when I become a teacher.

  20. I liked PREZI and iMovie because they are creative and fun ways to learn. Both were relatively easy to use once I learned how to use it. Plus it seemed more hands on for a digital tool and I love learning that way.

  21. The PSA assignment. I used to make movies as a kid, but I've never used a computer to edit before. It's fun being given a pile of clips, and seeing what can be done with it. Spielberg has nothing on me.
